 Richard Diebenkorn
1922 - 1993

"The idea is to get everything right"

Richard Diebenkorn is known in contemporary art terms "a painter's painter". He is described by art critics and scholars as an artist whose contributions to art history are wide and diverse.

His masterly execution of various media, i.e painting both in abstractions and in figurative modes, through heroic-sized paintings to small paintings, drawings and etchings, are remarkable in their originality and integrity.

He moved from the figurative to abstraction with seeming facility. More importantly, I believe he drew upon a great reserve of inner strength to always follow his instincts. With or against the prevailing tide of opinion, he followed his own course throughout. - C Coalson -
